During this holiday season, the students, parents, and staff of East Pikeland Elementary School have “adopted” 18 families in need with 56 children, in the surrounding community.

Many volunteers worked to contact families, organize their needs, communicate these for donations, sort and organize gifts, wrap, deliver, and so much more!  In the classroom our Adopt-A-Family gifts fill the boxes made especially to hold donations and the students are excited for the day to come that they see the big, colorful bags ready for helping others!

East Pikeland’s K-Kids Organization (A Key Club International program of Kiwanis International) used Adopt-A-Family as a Service Project again this year.  They decided to raise money by hosting “Spirit Week” which was fun for students and staff alike!   K-Kids were able to raise over $2,000 in coins toward this program and EP Cares which is another Home & School Philanthropic Committee.  We are extremely grateful to the K-Kids for their help!

East Pikeland’s Adopt-A-Family Program began in 1996 and has been an annual event ever since.  It is a special East Pikeland “Family” program in that it is the only committee where there is a collaboration between the Home and School parents and the Staff who work together to organize and build it every year.  Mrs. Elizabeth Conish from the Home and School and Mrs. Donna Elicker, guidance counselor are co-coordinators this year.

One thing that never changes is the families who receive these gifts are genuinely excited and deeply appreciative.  Some of the adults express that they would not have been able to see their children smile during the holiday without the help of the Adopt-A-Family program.  What a nice example of the spirit of the season!
